Nestled on the stunning Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Marina Pez Vela continues to deliver world-class fishing opportunities for both inshore and offshore anglers. The period from June 15 to July 15 brought spectacular action and two exciting tournaments to Quepos.
Inshore Fishing: Roosters, Jacks & Snappers
Inshore fishing remained consistent and productive throughout the month. Calm mornings and warm water temperatures provided ideal conditions for light tackle action, with anglers experiencing strong fights and memorable catches.
Inshore releases this month:
64 Roosterfish – Always a fan favorite for their wild fights and photogenic appearances.
183 Jacks – Powerful fighters that kept rods bent all day long.
83 Snappers – A delicious prize and a thrilling catch near rocky structures.
Whether you're a seasoned angler or a family looking for a half-day adventure, the inshore bite did not disappoint.
Offshore Fishing: Marlin, Sailfish & Meat Fish Madness
Offshore anglers were treated to some of the best action of the season, with both billfish and meat fish showing up in strong numbers. The bluewater off Quepos continues to be a fisherman’s paradise.
Offshore catch and release totals:
235 Sailfish – Reliable acrobatics and exciting multiple-hookup days.
12 Blue Marlin – A majestic prize for any angler.
6 Black Marlin – A rare and powerful encounter.
Additional offshore catches:
149 Mahi Mahi (Dorado) – Bright colors and high-flying action.
489 Yellowfin Tuna – A sushi lover’s dream with impressive schools offshore.
8 Wahoo – Fast, fierce, and always a thrill when they strike.
Tournament Highlights
Charter Challenge (May 1 – June 26, 2025)
This exclusive tournament invited charter boats from Marina Pez Vela to compete in a flexible format, choosing their best 7 fishing days within a 2-month window. The goal: weigh the heaviest Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo to accumulate points.
Tournament Stats:
18 Charter Boats Participated
Scoring Species: Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo
Winners:
🏆 Charter challenge Champion: Reel Freedom – 1,065.5 points
🐟 Heaviest Tuna: Good Day – 156 lbs
⚡ Heaviest Wahoo: Stress Reliever – 41.20 lbs
The Charter Challenge proved to be an exciting and strategic competition that celebrated the top-performing charter crews of the season.
Tuna Thunder (June 28, 2025)
A one-day tournament focused exclusively on weighing the biggest Yellowfin Tuna. With big fish and tight competition, the Tuna Thunder brought intensity and celebration to the docks.
Top Results:
🥉 3rd Place: XTA-SEA – 75.50 lbs
🥈 2nd Place: SeaDuction – 79.50 lbs
🥇 1st Place: Team Tuna Legends aboard GunSmoke – 93.10 lbs
