Watch for the sign on the Highway

Costa Rica's jagged coastline offers the perfect setting for a jungle hideaway. Off the beaten track, perched on the point of Dominicalito, La Parcela's restaurant is a dining destination. It overlooks two bays, offering breathtaking ocean views from both angles. The vibe is nautical chic. All the tables are scenic but reservations are recommended for sunset. In the minutes before the sun sets, guests regularly leave their tables to walk to the promontory adjacent to watch the sun sink into the horizon directly in front of them.

Nature lovers will feel right at home. The menu features domestic and international fare highlighting fresh seafood, compliments of the small fishing boats in the distance. The poke bowls are spectacular with spiralized pickled veggies that are vibrant and zingy.

The ceviches are refreshing and the cocktails and power shakes from the bar are showstoppers. There are plenty of clean-eating, vegan and gluten free options. The generous portions of meat or pasta are sure to lull you into a heady state of bliss. Local favorites such as whole fried fish, arroz con pollo o camaron, yucca and patacones are undeniable staples as are the sandwiches, burgers and tacos.

We ordered the pork ribs with pineapple sauce which was superbly plated but the sauce on the bottom was soaked up by the potatoes rather than the meat. And the seafood platter was predominately deep fried. We finished with a classic chocolate cake and ice cream that was comforting and melty, a perfect wrap-up to a gorgeous experience.

Overall, the food has plenty of range, the flavors are nice, and the dishes well presented. The staff is youthful and friendly, dressed casually but neatly. Their genuine smiles add to the charm and the welcoming ambiance. Sometimes a troop of monkeys will

parade through, maybe around happy hour, a reminder that

nature is the main event.
