The Friend Code / El Código de Amistad - 7 Rules for Women to Safely Go Out on the Town.

Dear Young  Women, Queridas Mujeres Jóvenes,

During this quiet season of July, we wanted to review a time honoured tradition practised among female friends. If you don’t already know it, here’s a breakdown of the Friend Code. It is this code that us “old school ladies” followed when no one else was watching our backs and we want to share with you now. The advent of female empowerment – which is a great thing – doesn’t keep danger at bay unfortunately. And it’s still unclear who’s out there watching our backs. The Friend Code is how your moms and aunties would always roll when they were your age. We see you will be better for it too. 

Durante este tranquilo mes de julio, queríamos repasar una tradición ancestral entre amigas. Si aún no la conocen, aquí les describimos el Código de la Amiga. Es el código que nosotras, las "chicas de la vieja escuela", seguíamos cuando nadie estaba cuidándonos las espaldas, y queremos compartirlo con ustedes ahora. El empoderamiento femenino – una gran noticia -- lamentablemente no nos protege completamente. Y aún no está claro quién nos protege. El Código de la Amiga, asi es como lo hacían sus madres y tías cuando tenían su edad. Vemos que ustedes también lo harán mejor.

1.     " We leave together... We stay together....We come back together.”  NO you're not leaving with some RANDOM dude & NO I'm not leaving you at the party by yourself!

"Nos vamos juntas... Nos quedamos juntas... Volvemos juntas“ ¡NO, no te vas con un tipo cualquiera y NO, no te voy a dejar sola en la fiesta!"

2.     " Both of us can't be sh*t face drunk”  (neither of you should, says your mother) , at least one person needs to be alert & aware of our surroundings!

"No podemos estar las dos super borrachas (ninguna debería), ¡al menos una tiene que estar alerta y atenta a nuestro entorno!" 

3.     " If you got to go to the bathroom or outside ." WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE BATHROOM or outside!!" Period!

"Si tienes que ir al baño o afuera..." ¡TODAS VAMOS AL BAÑO Y AFUERA!" ¡Punto! 

4.      " We don't accept drinks from strangers unless we're at the bar and watch the bartender pour".

"No aceptamos bebidas de desconocidos a menos que estemos en la barra y veamos al  bartender servir".

5.      " If I feel like you're too drunk to function, we're leaving the party early". (We'll fuss about you messing up the night later)

"Si siento que estás demasiada borracha para funcionar, nos vamos temprano de la fiesta". (Luego nos quejaremos de que hayas arruinado la noche). 

6.       "If you just so happen to go missing. I will give you a maximum 15-30 mins to show up before I Shut the place down and we ALL are going to be looking for your ass!!! FOR REAL!!!” Everybody else can call the police 'cause I ain't going home without you!

"Si desapareces por casualidad". Te doy un máximo de 15 a 30 minutos para que llegues antes de que cierre el lugar y ¡todos te busquemos! ¡¡¡DE VERDAD!!! ¡Que llamen a la policía porque no me voy a casa sin ti! 

7.     " ...and the golden rule: "The drop off person checks in or everyone who drove checks in when getting home" If we don't hear from you, we coming to ya house.

"...y la regla de oro   "La persona que deja a la chica se registra o todos los que conducen se registran al llegar a casa". Si no sabemos nada de ti, iremos a tu casa. 

Until its completely safe out there, use the Friend Code, it will have your back. And if you have a young woman in your family that’s precious to you, remind her of the Friend Code.

Hasta que sea completamente seguro, usa el Código de Amistad; te protegerá. Y si tienes en tu familia una mujer joven que sea valiosa para ti, recuérdale el Código de la Amistad.
